Description of Program:
Stonington Institute began serving recovering alcoholics in 1957 as Starlight Farms, a working
farm where adults in recovery were introduced to the principles of Alcoholics Anonymous.
We began serving adolescents in 1999. Today, we are the longest continuously operating,
free-standing, voluntary treatment facility in New England. Our main campus is located in
North Stonington, Connecticut, in its original private and peaceful rural setting. We also
have three additional sites, two located in Groton and one in Waterford, CT. Transportation
and off-campus housing assistance make our programs and services accessible to a
statewide clientele. Stonington Institute is licensed by the State of Connecticut
Department of Public Health, and also by the State of Connecticut Department of Children
and Families (DCF) as a Residential Treatment Facility. We are accredited by the Joint
Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Our Professional staff
hold degrees, licenses, and certifications in their fields of expertise.
